Use
Pangasius skin, basa fish as a cosmetic
Scientists from An Giang Department of Agriculture
and Rural Development and Ho Chi Minh City Polytechnic University have
successfully separated collagen from pangasius fillet to use in cosmetic
production.
According to experts, collagen is simply understood
as the main component of connective tissue in the human body, the most common
protein in the body (a quarter of the total protein). For skin, in addition to
bonding, this substance also creates elasticity. So when we get older, the
collagen in the skin is broken, the damage to our skin is loss of elasticity,
firmness, rapid flow and formation of wrinkles.
At this time, the skin begins to dry, tan in some
areas exposed directly to the sun as the cheekbones, forehead. According to
research, collagen extracted from fish skin is much smaller than collagen
extracted from other animal species such as pig skin or cow skin, so the
collagen permeability of fish is higher.
The scientists used two methods, acetic acid and the
use of solvents combined with enzymes. When kept below 39.5 ° C, collagen is
not denatured in structure and is easy to store. Currently, the research team
is testing technology to extract collagen from skin and bones of tra and basa
catfish for use in the food, pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries. If
successful, this technology will not only help processing waste from seafood
processing plants, reduce environmental pollution but also increase the value
of catfish and basa fish.
